Devotionals On The Book of John
Welcome to Day 3. This time is sowing seeds in your soul that will reap the fruits of the Spirit. Don’t be discouraged by your mistakes, challenges, or situation you are facing. Come the King. He welcomes you to be alone with him for the next 10-15 minutes. He promises He will finish what He has started in you. Here are some helpful tips to best utilize your time.
- Choose an ordinary place to become sacred-ordinary holy ground. This could be your favorite chair, the back porch steps, or a coffee shop.
- Set aside anything that could distract you for the next 10-15 minutes. If you are using your phone or laptop for this devotionals put it on due not disturb. If you are using a print out, set aside your phone or smart watch. This time is intentional meant to be with The King.
- I suggest to pick up a journal that you can jot down some ideas that stick out to you from your time with Jesus. As you continue to meditate on it through out your day, write it down.
- Pick a consistent time. For you it may be the final moments in your day, early in the morning before anyone wakes up, or your daily office lunch break. When doesn’t matter as much as being consistent.
I pray that during this time of meditation, reflection, and prayer God will reveal himself to us so we can draw near to him. Shall we begin?
August 6 John 1:29-34
Let’s Begin with Prayer. Pick a posture whether kneeling, sitting, or sitting up straight with the palms of your hands facing upward.
- In this season of prayer, write down or lift up with words different things God has delivered you from. If you cannot think of any, write or say things you need deliverance from.
- Read John 1:29-34 Write some of your thoughts down. Here are some questions to consider to help navigate your time studying scripture.
- Where did I feel resistance? Where did I feel delight? What portion of scripture did I experience God’s nearness?
Some Thoughts I Like To Share,
When I read the title, “Lamb of God” my mind is taken back to the story of Exodus. It was through the sacrifice of the lamb and the blood that was put on the doorpost that preserved the firstborn and finally caused Pharaoh to release the children of Israel. Now through The Word, The true Lamb of God, we are being set free not from the Pharaoh of sin! It is through him that we will find victory.
The title, “Son of God,” reminds me of the first Son of God, Adam. Through him, as Paul speaks about in Romans 5:12-17, sin was brought into the world and death spread to all men. But just as in our first Devotional, John is starting a new creation story, with a new Adam, a new Son of God. This one will not fail and through his victory, we will be set free. Through his victory, he will usher in peace, forgiveness, and everlasting life. John the Baptist has seen it and he testifies of it so that anyone who might believe can receive Him.
Finally, John wasn’t given the full picture at first. Yet He was called to be faithful to the portion that He knows. His faith and holy fear lead him to obedience and to eventually see the full picture. Psalms 25:14
